FRANKLIN HALL

IU - BLOOMINGTON, IN

The Renovation of Franklin Hall provided updated space for students in the Media School. The building was originally constructed in the 1920’s and was subsequently enlarged by two additions. These additions were not done in concert with the original building making the renovations that Weddle undertook quite complex. A major obstacle was that none of the floor elevations between all the various additions matched. Weddle developed plans to allow for easier transitions from floor to floor. The feature piece of this project was the removal of two floors and the roof to create an “open atrium” just inside the main entry. The rest of the new space was built to facilitate the installation of state-of-the-art media equipment from HD cameras to EKG and EMG machines for research purposes.
